Certainly. The EMIT team can purchase and load data bundles for you, which work out more cheaply than SMS and cannot be used by employees for personal purposes.

Absolutely not. Compared to the costs of printing and manual data capture, the cost of airtime and data capture using EMIT are negligible. Your data is transported using GPRS or 3G networks, which work out even more cheaply than SMS. The average survey - of say 20 long questions - will use only a fraction of a megabyte to transfer.

In South Africa, data transfer costs around R2 per megabyte - meaning you'll pay around 2c per survey in data charges.

Capture is compatible with phones that support JAVA applications.

Phones which have been tested in-house and are known to support Capture are:

Nokia
  • 6300
  • 3110 Classic
  • 3500 Classic
  • 2700 Classic
The phones that have not been tested, but which should support Capture in theory:

LG
Motorola
Nokia
  • Any N - Series
  • Any E - Series
  • Any Series 40 with 2MB heap
Samsung
Sony Ericsson

No, not necessarily. Fieldworkers can use their existing phones, provided they have the following minimum requirements:
  • MIDP 2.0
  • GPRS
  • Jar size - 1MB
  • Heap size - 1MB
A selection of EMIT-compatible phones can be found above. Cellphones can be purchased on your behalf on request.
